Airtel Kenya will launch 4G LTE network trial in the capital Nairobi next week, chief executive Adil El Youssefi revealed to the Daily Nation.

Airtel Kenya will initially launch the LTE trail with 40 base stations in Nairobi, that will later be expanded to 45 other sites in major towns, including Mombasa and Kisumu, by the end of March 2017.

Back in 2015, both Airtel and Orange were granted the permission by the Communications Authority of Kenya to start testing LTE services ahead of a commercial launch.

Both the operators delayed on a 4G rollout, just to focus on improving 3G services first and waited for the market to get ready for 4G.
