The pre-booking of JioPhone started with heavy demand today.
JioPhone pre-booking can be done for Rs 500 across its retail stores and the Jio app.
The initial booking amount is Rs 500 while the rest Rs 1,000 has to be paid at the time of delivery in September.
Users have complained about the official Jio website crashing due to heavy traffic.
Reliance Industries MD Mukesh Ambani had announced that voice calling for customers of the “effectively free” JioPhone would always be free and they would get unlimited data for a month against payment of Rs 153.
Jio has also announced a weekly plan for Rs 53 and a 2- day plan for Rs 23 for unlimited data access.
JioPhone, which can be operated by speaking out instructions to dial, type messages and the like will come with pre-loaded Jio apps for messaging and entertainment. The phone can be connected with television sets for watching live TV using the Jio TV app.
According to CyberMedia Research (CMR), 61.8 million mobiles were shipped in the second quarter of 2017, of which 54 per cent were feature phones, witnessing 9 per cent sequential growth.
“As the JioPhone launch looms, the prospects of feature phones as well as entry-level smartphones brands aligned to these markets pushed the shipments in wake of anticipated contraction of the market due to Jio Phone availability in 3Q and beyond,” the CMR report stated.
Reliance Retail has a target of making available 50 lakh JioPhones every week from September.
