Telecel Zimbabwe has started upgrading its mobile data network to improve coverage and allow the operator to expand its range of products and services. The network upgradation will be carried out in Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Gweru, Chinhoyi, Karoi and Masvingo. The project is expected to be completed by the end of May 2016.
Telecel’s communications and branding director, Obert Mandimika, commented: ‘We have responded to the increased popularity and consumption of data services by our customers through a national network upgrade which will markedly improve the quality of data coverage.’
Rival operators Econet and NetOne have both introduced 4G LTE, but Telecel has still not announced its 4G network roadmap.
